Smasher is an unprecedented custom modification of the classic Urei 1176 compressor circuit, a unique formula that we came across when fine-tuning other algorithms.
The original hardware of the 1176 compressor offered a choice of four ratios, but studio engineers soon discovered that pressing them simultaneously resulted in distorted, explosive, and highly compressed sound. It is this "All Buttons In" or "British" mode that has been carefully designed by Smasher to recreate.
Staying very close to the original scheme, the modifications we built into Smasher will add a definition to transients and make your tone more aggressive. We like to use it to improve the atmosphere in the drums, but there are many other creative uses. Smasher won't work on every track, but where it works, it works magically.
Smasher stands out for its rough and rough sounds, reminiscent of bands like Vulfpeck, The Whitefield Brothers, and The Black Keys.
